A land of the ages ... nurtured by the Verde River ...

  • Prehistoric animals and humans once roamed here - an ancient Hohokam Indian Community called Azatlan was situated between Fountain Hills and Rio Verde.
  • The mountain men and gold seekers came - and the U.S. Cavalry. Ranchers and farmers followed, with farmers forming a settlement about 25 miles away on the Salt River which they named "Phoenix."
  • Dams were built to tame the Salt and Verde Rivers, while the Yavapai Indians worked to establish their new community on the site of the former Fort McDowell army Post.
  • Ranchers, farmers and Native Americans lived in harmony on the land. In the late 1960's, entrepreneurs created the new communities of Fountain Hills and Rio Verde.
